The material of choice for palaces and temples in Japan, aromatic cypress and cedar, where imported to follow the distinctly Asian tradition of using trees as they grow - curves and all. Inspired by feng shui tradition, this residence combines a meticulous attention to refined materials combined with strong textural elements, including a Chinese granite hearth, once a door threshold, rescued from a village that was flooded by a dam project in China.
